Catalyzing Community Sustainability Projects: Let’s Do Something!

Co-creative Solutions from Climate Emergency to Collective Emergence

When the Winter Storm of 2021 froze Texas, the warm hearts of the people united and the community arose in action. Mobilizing fast response mutual aid initiatives, strangers came together to deliver massive amounts of water, food, warmth and comfort, caring with deep devotion for the most vulnerable. Mutual aid community projects are a uniquely powerful path to regenerative wellness for our world. Cocreativity is innately generative. The dynamic synergy of shared inspiration, passion and action catalyzes exponential positive change. When we enter into co-creative connection, we move into a shared flow state. Our awareness heightens, our intuition flows forth with visionary clarity as we embody the solutions we seek. We find that innovative possibilities unfold brighter and bolder with every breath. Inspiration ignites and kindles hope, lighting our love into action. In community co-creation, we share mutual support with equity and kindness. We reunite with our innate state of being – Unity. It is home, and our hearts rejoice in the reunion. In activated connection with each other, with our own full potential and with the essence of life abounding – together we rise! We arise to the challenges of this pivotal moment in history, invoking transformation for the wellbeing of the people and the planet. We find that within us are the seeds of a thriving, equitable world for all. Do you feel the call within your own heart?

What does love-in-action look like? When the Winter Storm Climate Event shut down power, water, roads, stores and the entire supply chain in Austin, the community was in true crisis. The most at-risk were BIPOC and marginalized community members, already experiencing the harshest impact of the COVID pandemic. The Eco-conscious Music Alliance (EMA) (https://www.ema.earth/), based in Austin, mobilized to provide 1000’s of meals for low income families, elders, community of color, refuges and unhoused people. Every week for nearly two months after the storm, EMA delivered hundreds of hot, nourishing meals directly to the most vulnerable in the community. Within days the organization developed a vibrant support system, gathering dozens of active volunteers and creating a resource-sharing mandala of businesses, grassroots initiatives, Nonprofits and city officials. With this new network established, EMA was able to scale up quickly for even more impact. For example, without any prior notice EMA jumped in to help coordinate the distribution of 1000’s of pounds of produce in a single day with a local farm, and began work with the City of Austin Office of Sustainability for long-term food security projects. If this is what can be done in an emergency, imagine what can be done to grow ongoing Community Sustainability Projects. What projects would you love to see grow in your community to help the people and the ecosystem thrive?

Every month, on the third Sunday, The Ecoconscious Music Alliance catalyzes Community Sustainability Projects around the world at the online EMA Global Action Concert. The event features inspiring music, speakers and a dynamic Action Meeting. EMA helps people co-create community projects for local sustainability, climate action, food supply and community caring. EMA provides training, local and global connections, and ongoing support. Through “Uniting In Music and Arising In Action” the EMA community is channeling the uplifting energy of music into tangible positive change in the world we all share. EMA is growing a global network of local Community Sustainability Projects, coming together to share support, innovation and celebration. This is a unique new opportunity to bring local projects into a global community co-creation space. At the Global Action Concerts, the community gathers together in an action meeting, including productive breakout sessions with local volunteers or members of the global activist think tank. In this heart-centered community, innovation for high-impact action is emerging with well-nourished momentum.

On June 20th, The EMA Global Action Concert will be featured at World Unity Week (WUW), bringing the WUW theme of “Let’s Do Something” into tangible action planning! Raising energy with exquisite eco-conscious music, participants will then move into interactive support sessions for Community Sustainability Projects. With or without a current project in the works, people and organizations can attend to co-create changemaking action in the world together. The EMA network’s projects are as diverse as the people and organizations who join the community. Current EMA projects range from a city-wide urban community gardening initiative throughout Austin’s food deserts, to an African Ecovillage, to Permaculture projects in Glastonbury UK, to an emerging Ecovillage in Northern California providing trauma informed housing solutions for the homelessness crisis to Rainforest restoration in cooperation with Indigenous Peoples. What local project, idea, or loving inspiration might you bring in to be supported by the global EMA community?

Sustainability is regenerative holism. To sustain is to support, nourish and strengthen. Community Sustainability Projects invite us to activate our collective genius and bring forth potent solutions for social change, environmental restoration, climate action, and a new paradigm of equitable, heart-centered emergence. In local communities around the world, our human family is consciously growing the cultural values shifts and actions needed to move us beyond the dire crises of this moment on the planet. These intersectional social and environmental crises actually have the same cause – somewhere in our human history, we forgot that we are truly one, one with the Earth, one with each other and one with all of life. Working together in community connects us not only to a flourishing future, it also draws up the wisdom of our one unity from our ancient roots. No matter who we are, the vast majority of our ancestral lineage were tribal people, living in conscious balance with each other and the Earth. We evolved in community, and in community we will evolve together now, stepping into our shared power to grow the world of our heart’s highest visions. This ‘we consciousness’ is foundational to both EMA and We, The World (https://we.we.net/), the fiscal sponsor of the Eco-conscious Music Alliance. The Educational Partner for EMA is The Sustainable Living Guide https://sustainablelivingguide.org/, featuring online classes with leading authors and experts from around the world. The Sustainable Living Guide developed an extensive series of classes for Community Sustainability Projects to support EMA’s work, all based in Trauma- Informed Change-Making Design.

Deep within each of us, our oneness is shining through. This unity illuminates our hearts, it sings out in our hopes and in our passionate devotion to love-in-action. This precious unity, this ‘we consciousness’, paints vibrant visions of a thriving world in balance. It sparks brilliant ideas to help us care for the people and the planet. Right now, in this enlivened moment, the very core of our essence is pulsing with the infinite potency of positive change. In beauty, in love, in gratitude – we emerge together.
